Lets Pledge To Save Marine Biodiversity & Those Employed By The Fisheries and Aquaculture
UN FAO reports up to 26 million tons of fish caught on the high seas, illegally and unethically, making it one of the greatest threats to marine ecosystems.
These illegal and unethical practices have a potent ability to undermine national and regional efforts to manage fisheries sustainably as well as endeavors to conserve marine biodiversity. In its annual resolution in December 2017 the UN General Assembly announced 5 June as the "International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing." 2022 is the year declared for “ International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture”, focusing and highlighting the small-scale fisheries, that encompass a workforce to the tune of 90% of the world’s fishery workforce.
